  Christmas

  December is mostly about seasonal plants and table centrepieces in red, white and green.

  Flowers we recommend

  • Poinsettia — The Christmas plant above all. It needs light and no draughts.

  Valentine's Day

  The busiest day of the year for flowers. Red is the classic, but soft pinks or a bunch of tulips say the same thing in a different way.

  A very busy date: it is best to order a few days ahead.

  • Red rose — The symbol of romantic love.
  • Tulip — In full season in February; in red or pink it is a less expected choice.
  • Pink or fuchsia roses — For a relationship that is just starting, or if red feels like too much.

  Father's Day (Spain)

  In Spain it falls on Saint Joseph's day. Warm or understated bouquets work well and, more and more, plants: they last for months and need little care.

  • Green plants — Kentia, monstera or snake plant, for home or the office. They cope even if watering is forgotten.

  Saint George's DayCatalan tradition

  In Catalonia people give a rose (and a book) on their patron saint's day. The custom has spread to other cities, Madrid included, as it coincides with World Book Day.

  Mother's Day (Spain)

  In Spain it is the first Sunday of May and, together with Valentine's, the busiest date. May is also when peony season begins.

  A very busy date: it is best to order a few days ahead.
